WHAT IS AN EORI NUMBER AND HOW TO OBTAIN IT?

EORI number – what is it and for whom is it necessary?
The EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is an EU identification number used by entrepreneurs in contacts with customs authorities throughout the European Union.
It is necessary for every importer and exporter operating in the Community. Therefore, regardless of whether you are planning to import goods from China, the USA or sell your products to Australia, you must obtain an EORI number before you do so. It is necessary for every customs clearance of your goods.
IMPORTANT! The assigned EORI number is unique and inimitable, and each entrepreneur/company has only one such number.

What does the EORI number look like and how to get it?
The EORI number consists of a Member State code and a series of digits (from 15 to 17).
In the case of Poland, the EORI number for companies registered in Poland consists of the letters PL, the NIP number and five 0s. For foreign entities applying for this number in Poland, the last zero is replaced by the letter “Z”.
Therefore, an exemplary EORI number looks like this:
for Polish companies PL123456789100000
for foreign companies PL12345678910000Z
Importantly, you should apply for an EORI number in the country where your company is registered. If it is Poland, you must apply for it to the Director of the Tax Administration Chamber in Poznań, Poland.

And how should it be done?
First of all, you must be registered in PUESC, i.e. the Electronic Tax and Customs Services Platform. Then, via your profile, you submit an electronic application for an EORI number. Please remember that you will also need your electronic signature.
You should receive your EORI number after a few business days.
How to check your EORI number?
And if you have already submitted the above-mentioned application but you do not remember your EORI number, you can easily find it online. All you need to do is go to the EU website “EORI number verification” and enter PL, your NIP number and five zeros in the search box.
Thanks to the search engine, you can also check other business entities operating in the EU.
We would like to remind you that you are obliged to provide your EORI number in every customs declaration. And if you want to learn more about how to prepare for customs clearance, we recommend our article “Customs clearance step by step”.
